What I did on my sabbatical

I 'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to take time off work, my sabbatical has been an amazing experience where I've re-connected with parts of myself I'd lost to motherhood and my business. Clients have been asking what I've been up to, so I thought I'd do a visual 'show and tell' for you...

Top Massage Blog Award

I am very happy to have been voted one of the UK's top 10 massage blogs by the kind people at Feedspot, in fact, I am cruising in at number 5, what an honour! Especially as the other nominees include MTI and the Jing School of Massage, institutions that are well known for their high-quality post-grad courses. I'd better create some lovely new posts for you soonish then...

Lily l’Amour – tell me I’m beautiful

This is part of the Pants of Empowerment project, where women share the voice of their feminine nature and in return, receive a fantastic pair of pants to empower them. All names have been changed. "I am in awe and impressed by the perimeter of my pelvis like I was in a cathedral, there was a holiness, like wow!   My womb is strong and my left ovary is where it should be, and the right ovary feels a bit crooked, low down and wonky, not quite right. That took my attention.  Why would that be? I tried to put the ovary up, in my imagination, but it wasn’t having it. It felt a bit crippled."   What would your ovary like to ...

Susie – an ocean of petals

This is part of the Pants of Empowerment project, where women share the voice of their feminine nature and in return, a fantastic pair of pants to empower them. All names have been changed. What would your clitoris say, if she had a voice? "I'm feeling a little neglected, rather like a gorgeous pair of dancing shoes left out in the rain. My leather isn't so shiny anymore, the dye has run and I've lost my shape. You haven't been looking after me! And when you remember me you just complain that I don't work so well anymore. It's a bit rich. I need your love! I need your attention and care! Make me beautiful again!" What gifts would ...

The Benefits of Bump Massage in Pregnancy

Bump massage can do wonderful things for you and your baby, making your pregnancy easier as well as potentially improving your experience of the birth. Yet most of my clients are surprised when I outline the benefits of massaging their bumps beyond trying to avoid stretch-marks.   I have created detailed instructions for you to give yourself a bump massage at home; there's a visual guide with written instructions as well as an audio to guide you through this deeply relaxing practice.   It’s a natural, instinctive thing to do and you’re probably already massaging some belly butter in, but with a little more direction there can ...

Watford and Hertfordshire Massage Therapists

I am no longer taking on new pregnancy clients, so here is a list of some great massage therapists nearby. As always when finding a new therapist, as well as looking at their site, give them a ring and see if you feel a connection. Ask lots of questions and ultimately trust your guts and you won't go far wrong. As a leaving gift, I have created a Yoga Nidra meditation for you to recreate the feeling of being safely held and connected with your body, just like when having a massage. It will help you relax deeply into yourself if you are pregnant or wanting to connect with your body. Yoga Nidra, literally translated as ‘yogic sleep’ is a ...

Is Massage Safe in the First Trimester?

If you go to a beauty salon or Spa and book a massage, they will always ask if you are pregnant and in most cases will refuse to give you a massage except where they have specially trained therapists. But does this mean that massage is unsafe in the first trimester? Is there proof? In truth there has been no research into the safety of massage in the first trimester so we can’t prove it either way, but massage is akin to gentle exercise in that it improves circulation, oxygenates the blood and releases endorphins. As the NHS recommend that pregnant women stay as active as possible during their pregnancy, the implication is that it is both safe and ...

Six Ways to Help Period Pain

Menstrual pain is no joke, 40 – 70% of women of reproductive age experience some kind of pain, with 10% of women describing severe symptoms. That’s a lot of regular women with hot water bottles. In fact, there is no need for us to experience pain, it is not healthy or necessary. 1. Menstrual cycle awareness You know about pre-menstrual grumps I bet. OK maybe not grumps but it used to be full-on raging in my case. “Will you please stop breathing like that!!!”  But what if I was to suggest that your energy and internal weather changed all through your cycle?   Noting down your feelings and energy each day of your cycle ...
